My name is Fred Clifford. I am running to represent Ward One on Lakewood City Council. Here are some of my priorities:
The Council and the City staff serves the constituents, the residents of Lakewood. This should be the first priority of every policy and action of Lakewood. Lakewood doesn't have 158,000 customers, Lakewood has 158,000 employers.
The next priority is adhering to the U.S. Constitution, the Colorado Constitution, and the Charter of the City of Lakewood. This actually the highest priority. I will not knowingly vote in favor of any ordinance that violates the U.S. Constitution, the Colorado Constitution, or the City Charter.
In serving the interests of the constituents, sometimes those interests conflict with each other. We must take a balanced approach and determine what is best for the general population. The interest of special interest groups should never be more important than the interests of the general population.
People who are free are always much better off than those who are controlled. Free people are more prosperous, more generous, and much better at solving problems. All people have natural rights. Governments are instituted to secure these rights. A right that nullifies the right of another is not a right. Rights do not come from Governments. Governments can recognize and protect those rights.
