The 2017 Denver Walk for Childhood Apraxia of Speech event will be held on August 5th, 2017 at Clement Park. Registration begins at 9:00 AM with the Walk beginning at 10:30 AM. It is open to all adults and children. All proceeds will benefit important apraxia programs and research of the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America (CASANA).
Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a very challenging and complicated neurological speech disorder in children. This little known disorder makes it difficult or impossible for children to accurately produce sounds, syllables, and/or words despite having a good understanding of language. The Walk for Children with Apraxia of Speech® is held across the country as a means to heighten awareness and funding.
"Children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech endure a lengthy struggle in their young life full of therapy appointments and many times frustration in their journey to find their voice," said local Walk Coordinator Laura Smith. "I coordinate the Walk as a mother who watcher her child firsthand, but also as an SLP who is inspired daily by the perseverance and determination of these little ones that I feel they DESERVE to be honored and celebrated."
