AURORA, CO, December 11, 2017 – – Highlighting its nationally recognized achievements in patient safety and quality, The Medical Center of Aurora (TMCA) was named a Top General Hospital by The Leapfrog Group for the second year in a row. The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive. The Top Hospital designation is awarded by The Leapfrog Group, an independent hospital watchdog organization.
Out of 4,862 Community Hospitals in the U.S., only 109 hospitals, including The Medical Center of Aurora, earned this award placing them in the top two percent of hospitals nationally. Additionally, TMCA is the only Colorado hospital to earn the Top Hospital designation two years in a row. TMCA also received an “A” grade for patient safety in the Fall 2017 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade report for its commitment to reducing errors, infections, and accidents that can harm patients.
“I am are very proud of our team who has earned this prestigious distinction for two years in a row,” said Dan Miller, President and CEO of The Medical Center of Aurora and Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital. “We have a very strong team of employees and physicians who work diligently to provide safe, high quality experience for our patients and I believe this is the reason they have earned this award again. I am continually amazed by the care and compassion they have for our patients and this, coupled with their dedication to safety, is what makes TMCA a great hospital.”
Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, maternity care, and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors. The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.
“We are proud to recognize The Medical Center of Aurora as a 2017 Leapfrog Top Hospital. This demonstrates extraordinary dedication to patients and the local community. The entire staff and board deserve praise for putting quality first and achieving results,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of Leapfrog.
To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must submit a Leapfrog Hospital Survey. The selection of Top Hospitals 2017 is based on surveys from nearly 1,900 hospitals. To see the full list of institutions honored as 2017 Top Hospitals, visit www.leapfroggroup.org/tophospitals.
