What if you could color a fun piece of art, de-stress, and end up with something you could proudly wear? Now you can at 24 west lemon, a design your own scarf studio in Denver.
While many startups center around technology, this new concept requires you to put it down.
24 west lemon allows women and girls to color templates that get turned into one-of-a-kind scarves. Each scarf can be personalized with their name or special message.
Although the final product is a fashionable scarf, at this contemporary studio there's something more going on.
"We're so much more than a scarf," said Jennifer Ward, founder of 24 west lemon. "We bring women and girls together to express their creativity, connect, and relax in a fun space."
In today's tech-filled, busy world it's no wonder activities that allow us to slow our brains down and to focus - like yoga and adult coloring - are so popular.
According to clinical psychologist Nathaan Demers, Psy.D., "In today's distraction-filled world we are constantly dealing with information overload. Tasks that bring us to the present moment - such as coloring - have overarching positive impacts on our mental and physical well-being."
At 24 west lemon there are no classes. Guests are welcome to visit the studio during open hours to design scarves. Alternatively, they can book a private gathering.
"Our studio gives women and girls a chance to get off technology and experience a creative escape," said Ward. "When guests arrive, they chat and socialize. However, when they start coloring it becomes quiet - that's when I know they're getting lost in creating their art."
The coloring templates - created by professional artists - make the design process fun and enjoyable. Rather than starting with an intimidating blank canvas, guests select coloring templates that guide them to success.
24 west lemon produces each scarf in the studio by transferring the colored art onto fabric. Scarves are mailed to guests within seven days after coloring.
Three scarf sizes are available, ranging from $28-$48 - materials used to design the scarves are included in the scarf cost.
24 west lemon is the brainchild of Jennifer Ward who started the business in 2013 out of her home in northwest Denver.
Now - four years after her initial idea for a design your own scarf studio - Ward has opened 24 west lemon, named after the street where she lives and where it all began.
In addition to the in-studio experience, 24 west lemon offers the Scarf Box. The box contains all materials guests need to design scarves in their own home.
"The Scarf Box enables us to extend our scarf coloring experience beyond our studio, said Ward. "The box is great for birthday parties, team building, or gathering with friends. After all, what girl- young or young at heart - doesn't need another pop of color to add to her wardrobe?"
