Ralston Valley High School senior, Madison Bowe was honored and awarded as the Doctor Susan Anderson Chapter’s DAR Good Citizen during the Chapter’s February meeting. The Doctor Susan Anderson Chapter, NSDAR in Arvada sponsored Madison’s participation in the DAR Good Citizen program and submitted her essay and contest to the State Society. She was then honored as the CO State DAR Good Citizen on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the 114th Colorado State Conference of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The Chapter and State Society presented Madison with a certificate and scholarship to show appreciation for her outstanding citizenship. Congratulations!
The DAR Good Citizens program is a wonderful way to recognize outstanding young people who exhibit the qualities of good citizenship in their homes, schools, and communities. The DAR Good Citizens program and Scholarship Contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all high school seniors enrolled in public or private schools accredited by their state board of education. United States citizenship is not required.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to preserve the memory and spirit of those who contributed to securing American independence. Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership. DAR is one of the world’s largest and most active service organizations with nearly 183,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide.
