The Native American Youth Summit is a collaborative effort between two Colorado based nonprofits; Cherokee Ranch & Castle Foundation and the Tipi Raisers. The two organizations have worked together recently to host Native cultural events with workshops around Native American wisdom and traditions. Additionally, Cherokee Ranch was the site of the opening ceremony and launch of the recently completed 400 mile LakotaRide. Now, with the support of the Native American Cultural Center at Colorado State University, the groups are producing the inaugural Native American Youth Summit, with the purpose being to bring together young leaders from tribes across the region with
non-Native youth leaders to raise awareness around the powerful repercussions of our shared history, forge lasting friendships and to identify- and collaboratively work toward solving- current and relevant issues impacting both groups.
On Friday September 7th at 6pm, the community is invited to attend the Native American Youth Summit Celebration Dinner with Vice President of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, Darla Black and Lakota entertainer/flutist, Reuben Fast Horse from the Standing Rock Indian reservation. Guests will hear from youth representing the Choctaw, Navajo, Hopi, Lakota, Shoshone and Arapahoe tribes as they share their perspectives of growing up Native on and off the reservation system. Come enjoy incredible panoramic views from the front courtyard of the majestic Cherokee Castle and partake in authentic Native American cuisine catered by Tocabe in the Veranda Tent.Tickets are available online for $75 at Cherokeeranch.org.
