Mt. Evans Chapter, SAR Inducts New Leadership Team
Denver, CO, January 13, 2018 – The Mt. Evans Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution inducted its new leadership team during its Annual Meeting held on January 13, 2018 at the Park Hill Golf Club.
“Each year, the Mt. Evans Chapter nominates its members, called Compatriots, to fill the Chapter’s leadership positions,” explained Captain Bob Easterly (U.S.N.R., Ret.), the outgoing Chapter President. “These nominees are elected by the Chapter Compatriots and inducted at the Annual Meeting. Once elected, they will be responsible for coordinating the activities of the Chapter though out the year.”
Wayne Snodgrass (Greenwood Village), Vice President General of the Sons of the American Revolution and a Chapter member, inducted the new leadership team. Also attending the Induction of Officers was Gene Cheney (Monument), President of the Colorado Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (COSSAR) and Steve DeBoer (Littleton), Past President, COSSAR and Past Chapter President.
The new officers include Bob Haines (Golden), President; Luke Rutz (Arvada), Vice President; Jeff Mershon (Evergreen), Secretary; Dave Oren (Lone Tree), Treasurer; Rick Neeley (Sedalia), Registrar; Norm Ruggles (Englewood), Historian; and Robert Stevens (Greenwood), Chaplain. “The new leadership team has the responsibility to build on the outstanding efforts that Captain Easterly and his team have made over the last two years,” incoming President Bob Haines described. “We have many talented Compatriots in the Chapter and it is an honor and an opportunity for those elected to contribute more to the success of the Chapter.”
Left to Right: Rick Neeley, Registrar; Norm Ruggles, Historian; Dave Oren, Treasurer; Robert Stevens, Chaplain; Jeff Mershon, Secretary; Luke Rutz, Vice President; and Bob Haines, President.
Over the coming year, the Chapter will hold four meetings at which Chapter business is conducted, but presentations of interest to the Compatriots are made. This year, the Chapter will hear a University of Denver History Professor discuss her recent book on pre-Revolutionary New York City, as well as a fellow Compatriot speak on the oldest church in Virginia. Later in the year, the Chapter will meet at the Denver Area Council of the Boys Scouts of America where the Eagle Scout program, one which the Chapter supports with an annual scholarship, will be described. The last program of the year will be on Veterans Day weekend. It will honor our veterans and include a talk by a retired Army Major General, a former Division Commander and Commandant of the US Military Academy at West Point.
The Mt. Evans Chapter represents those members of the Sons of the American Revolution living in the Denver Metro area. It is one of four Chapters in the Colorado Society.
