This January, High School Senior Emma Carter of Lone Tree, Colorado, distinguished herself from among over 50 other competitors when she earned one of three prestigious full-tuition scholarships awarded by MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas. These top three awards are the premier honors in the school's annual Scholarship Challenge weekend, January 19 and 20.
The annual event gives strong-performing high school students an opportunity to highlight their academic talents and compete for several different scholarship packages. The top-10 runners-up each receive $2,000 in scholarship monies, and those who do not place receive $1,000 in academic funds, in addition to any existing financial aid the student may be eligible for.
Carter is a senior at Valor Christian High School. She has maintained a broad range of extracurricular activities including varsity cross country, track, swimming, tennis and cheer. A strong performer in the classroom, she is also on student government and was elected female chaplain.
With a heart for the underserved, Carter has traveled on international service trips to four foreign countries with two more scheduled this year. She is a weekly volunteer leader and camp counselor for middle schoolers at Cherry Hills Community Church. The tutoring business she established is called SHINE Math Advancement.
Carter hopes to become a physician assistant. She is the daughter of Dennis and Susan Carter, also of Lone Tree.
