Calling all kids age 6-14! Castle Rock's only Junior Olympic USATF sanctioned Cross Country and Track team, the Kokopelli Racing Team, is gearing up for it's 3rd cross country season and we're looking to grow our team. Can your son or daughter run 2 miles without stopping? Do they like to run, and have that desire to get better? Come out and try a workout with us!
We are primarily a long distance running club with training groups in Castle Rock and Colorado Springs. The program has structured training to help each of the kids become the best runner they can be, with a goal of getting them to the point where they can be competitive at the State and or National level; with even more important aspirations of having fun, building character & confidence, and instilling a lifetime love of running. We also strive to get the kids ready for their middle and high school track & cross country programs.
The head of the program is Lisa Rainsberger, a former professional runner, whose accolades include being the last American woman to have won the Boston Marathon. We have very talented kids in our program that win a lot of races, including national championships, but it's more about having fun and allowing the kids to become the best they can be, setting goals and achieving them. Cross country and track are a great complement to other sports like soccer, lacrosse, basketball and football.
In the Summer we compete in track meets and in the Fall we race in cross country meets from Denver to Colorado Springs.
We are hosting our home meet this year on Saturday, September 30th in Sedalia, it's going to be huge event as we’re teaming up with Douglas County High School cross country team for a Cross Country Festival. Race distances for the youth of 2k, 3k and 4k are offered. The race is open to all youth, USATF affiliation is not required. To find out more information on the program, or to sign up for the race in Sedalia, go to www.kokopellikids.com or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
