InnovAge – a nonprofit organization that serves as the comprehensive resource for Colorado’s aging population – is proud to announce its team’s recent completion of the Alzheimer’s Association Leaders in Dementia Care Certification Program. InnovAge is the largest organization in Colorado to carry this designation.
“Currently more than half of the clients we serve at InnovAge have dementia,” said Lisa Price, M.D., lead medical director at InnovAge. “The Leaders in Dementia Care Certification means that the InnovAge team has an expertise in proving a higher level of specialized care for people with dementia and their families. InnovAge offers a broad range of programs and services for those with dementia and we can work with people as the disease progresses and needs change. We address the health and social needs of the patient and as well as supporting the family members who are so often exhausted from their responsibilities.”
This recent training has grown the InnovAge team’s existing knowledge of dementia in the realm of adult day care and home care. The Leaders in Dementia Care Certification is not presently a requirement of InnovAge or the State of Colorado. However, the curriculum has been approved in the state of Colorado. InnovAge is certified until December 1, 2013.
“The InnovAge team is honored to have earned the Leaders in Dementia Care Certification. This distinction provides us with an opportunity to open new doors in dementia care,” said Kevin Campbell, manager of training and development at InnovAge. “For patients and families, a dementia diagnosis can be devastating and frightening. Our team is trained to help patients and families understand the diagnosis as well as care and treatment options.”
Employee training and development are key focuses at InnovAge. This year, more than 75 percent of the InnovAge team completed the Alzheimer’s Association course. In 2013, InnovAge plans to expand its dementia training and certification to include InnovAge Longterm Care Options, all new InnovAge hires, as well as retraining for those who took the series of courses in 2012.
