Second Star to the Right Children’s Books and Denver Arts & Venues Present
Denver’s first Children’s Festival of Stories March 16th-18th at the McNichols Building
Free community event celebrating children’s literature with over 30 authors & illustrators
(DENVER, COLO.) – Second Star to the Right Children’s Bookstore, in partnership with Denver Arts & Venues Cultural Partner Program, is proud to present Denver’s first Children’s Festival of Stories on Saturday, March 17th from 9am to 4pm at the McNichols Building. More than 30 children’s book authors, illustrators and performers from across Colorado and the nation will join this celebration of story with children’s book lovers of all ages.
The community event will feature creators of board books, picture books, chapter books and middle grade novels. Presenter storytimes, readings, illustration demonstrations and booksignings will be showcased throughout the day. Festivities will include opportunities for young readers, writers and artists to engage with presenters and share their own stories through unique creation stations. There will also be giveaways and events created in partnership with Denver Public Library, Historic Elitch Theatre as well as community businesses including Little Man Ice Cream and Rosenberg’s Bagels & Delicatessen.
Preceding the festival on Friday, March 16th authors and illustrators will provide visits to schools and youth programs across the city. An Evening of Story will be held at the McNichols Building from 5-7pm for educators and librarians to meet the featured presenters.
Following the festival on Sunday, March 18th from 10am-3pm, a day of workshops for writers and artists of all ages will be offered to registered attendees. These offerings are made possible through collaboration between Lighthouse Writers Workshop, Historic Elitch Theatre and Second Star to the Right in an effort to encourage individuals of all ages and backgrounds to share their stories.
The mission of the festival aligns with Denver’s Imagine 2020 Cultural Plan to ensure art and culture is at the heart of the city. This free event, held in what was Denver’s original public library at the city’s center, is accessible to all, nurtures local talent and promotes lifelong learning. The festival fills a need in the growing city to provide opportunities for young children to meet the creators of books they love and promote literacy at a young age, as is the mission of Second Star to the Right.
The festival is free for all individuals. Attendees are invited to dress as their favorite children’s book character. Online registration is required for the Evening of Story on the 16th and the workshops on the 18th as space is limited. Interested attendees can register through the website (www.denvercfos.com) beginning in January.
