Two Colorado State University students are looking to change the parking industry one event at a time. Through an online platform, users near event centers can rent out their unused driveway space to those in need of parking. This allows for the event attendees to reserve their parking spot days or weeks in advance, removing the uncertainties of parking. The platform also gives those living near event centers the opportunity to monetize on an underutilized asset: their driveway.
Having launched just over a month ago, ParkIt is currently operating in Fort Collins, focusing on CSU Football games specifically. However, this is just the beginning for ParkIt. The founders, Cody GrandPre and Stein Christensen plan to take this nationwide. Events are just the entry point into a much larger market. The lack of parking near college campuses creates an opportunity to provide weekly and monthly parking options. Airports often have virtually no reasonably priced parking yet there’s houses all around with empty driveways. The applications for this platform truly are endless.
As for now, ParkIt is focusing on the next few CSU Football games. The homecoming game on the 14th and the Air Force game on the 28th are big tests for the platform. These games provide opportunity for the team to learn and make changes to improve the platform. When asked about the future, Cody said, “We’re excited to see where we can take this in the next couple years. Graduating this December will allow for us to focus 110 percent of our efforts towards building ParkIt which is what it’s going to take.”
