The Boras Foundation today announced the 16 teams competing in the 2018 Boras Baseball Classic of Arizona.
The Boras Classic will feature 16-elite teams from the four corners and Nevada to name a de-facto Championship team. Games begin March 14, 2018 at host schools Corona del Sol and Arcadia High School.
“We are excited to host the second annual Boras Baseball Classic in Arizona this spring,” said Scott Boras, Director of The Boras Foundation. “Being able to offer a platform for these athletes to showcase their talents to collegiate coaches and MLB scouts is why we created this tournament. This years line up features top talent from five states and is sure to be one of the best years in Classic history.”
Returning are inaugural Boras Baseball Classic champions, and back-to-back State Champions Basic Academy of Nevada who rank 14th nationally. Bringing top players including senior pitchers Shane Spencer (Long Beach State), C.J. Dornak (Air Force) and 1st Team All-State infielder Garrett Giles.
Included in the 2018 lineup are 6A East Valley Region Champions, Red Mountain High School (AZ), and Sunrise Mountain High School (AZ) bringing an 18-game win for 18 consecutive seasons under the leadership of coach Eric Gardner. In Gardner’s 19-year career with Sunrise he won 408 games, 13 region/section tiles and three State runner-up finishes in the last 11 years.
Also competing from Arizona are Boras Baseball Classic new comers Cienega High School, Mesa Mountain View High School and Liberty High School with 65th ranked Chandler Murphy (P, Arizona). Queen Creek High School (AZ) comes in featuring Senior catcher Colton Cassinelli (Washington).
New editions to the Boras Classic of Arizona from the Southwest, include 4-time State Champions Piedra Vista High School (NM) featuring the likes of senior Chase Silseth (P, Tennessee) and uncommitted Nate Swarts (INF). Legend High School (CO) boasts two top ranked senior pitchers with Brody McCord and Jack Baird (Pepperdine). Skyridge High School (UT) returns almost its entire roster coming off of a 4A State Semi-Finals and a 20-win inaugural season.
Also headed to Arizona are returning Boras Classic teams Coronado High School (NV), led by a strong group of seniors with Jake McLean (OF, UNLV), Boston Mabeus (P/1B, BYU) and Kyle Hall (P/INF, BYU). Catalina Foothills High School (AZ), Perry High School (AZ) and Mountain Pointe High School (AZ) are also returning to compete for the Title.
Hosts, Corona del Sol and Arcadia High Schools both reaching the 2017 State Semi-Finals and return a strong network of athletes. Hunter Hass (SS, Oregon State) leads the charge as a member of the 34-player 15U National Team Trials for Corona del Sol, while Arcadia High School returning senior three-sport athlete Mitch Arndt.
The 16 high school teams participating in the Classic are guaranteed a minimum of four games with the championship game slated for March 17th, 6 p.m. at Arcadia High School. The Boras Baseball Classic tournament bracket will be made available in its entirety at the Boras Classic website, borasclassicaz.com in early 2018.

Antoine Mistico (OF), of Chandler High School selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks
Trevor Hauver (SS), of Perry High School selected by the Kansas City Royals
JT Stanley (C), of Centennial High School selected by the Colorado Rockies
