Anyone dealing with ongoing pain is encouraged to participate. Friends and family are also encouraged to attend. Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives. Chronic Pain Self-Management is a self-management program developed at Stanford University.
The class meets once per week for six weeks. Each session is 2½ hours. Topics covered assist with overall health and well-being including:
•Techniques to deal with fatigue, frustration, isolation and poor sleep
•Setting weekly goals
•Exercise tips for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility and endurance
•Communicating effectively with family, friends and health professionals
•Managing activity and rest levels
•How to evaluate new treatments
Classes are sponsored by COAW, the Consortium for Older Adult Wellness. COAW offers health self-management and falls prevention classes throughout Colorado.
